Laang Speedway was the venue for the 2012 Australian Formula 500 Title.

The event started on the Thursday night the 5th of April, with a 3 hour practice session. Fort timed 47th out of the 49 cars that practiced that night. “It was disappointing to be that far off the pace tonight, we missed the gearing pretty bad.” Fort said.

The following day, Fort and the team prepared the car out of the Anderson Bobcat Services Garage, along with Leigh Van Ginneken and West Australian Thomas Davies. The team changed the gearing to gain some more revs out of the Jettco powerplant, “We changed a few things on the car to gain some more speed out of it. Leigh and Thomas were a big help, and I thank them for their knowledge” Fort said.

In the first round of heats Josh started out of position 5, at the green flag The Bakery Fresh V40 moved up a couple of positions, before getting passed back and ending the race in 6th position.

The first night was heavily rain effected, but Fort managed to get his second heat race in. Starting out of position 2, Josh knew he had to make the most of it. At the drop of the green flag Josh made his move and took the lead from Tasmanian Nick Kingston, Brock Hallett passed a few laps in for the lead. Eventually finishing in 3rd position at the end of the race. “I was pretty disappointed, as we needed the points” Fort said.

The first night eventually got rained out, and Fort was tied on points with previous Aus 1 Liam Williams and Charlie Brown in 13th Position.

The next day, Fort knew he had some work ahead to make the all important A Main.
With an earlier start to catch up on heat races from night 1 of the title, Josh found himself out of position 10 in the next heat. The team set the car up to run the topside of the racetrack. When the race got underway Fort set himself up on the top of the track going into turn 1. Unfortunately Fort came together with another car which sent him flipping into the turn. “It was disappointing way to end my Title hopes, not only for my team but for my sponsors also” Fort said.
The team would like to thank Anderson Bobcat Services for their generosity over the Weekend.
